Transporting Your Kevlar Canoe for your Boundary Waters Trip
Bringing a canoe to the Boundary Waters entry point? No sweat—we’ve got you covered at Moose Track Adventures. If you’re renting one of our lightweight Kevlar canoes, here’s how to get it to your entry point on top of your car. We supply the foam pads and tie-down straps, and they’re designed to work with just about any vehicle—sedan, SUV, or truck. Here’s the rundown:
What You’ll Need
- Your Vehicle: Roof rails or a bare roof? Our system adapts to both.
- Our Gear: We provide foam pads (to protect your roof and the canoe) and sturdy straps (to secure it tight). No fancy racks required!
- Optional: A buddy to help lift—Kevlar’s light (around 40-50 lbs), but an extra set of hands makes it easier.
How to Do It
- Position the Pads: Place our foam pads on your roof where the canoe will sit—usually two pads, spaced to match the canoe’s width (about 3-4 feet apart).
- Load the Canoe: Flip it upside down (hull up) and center it on the pads. Kevlar’s tough but light, so it’s a breeze to lift.
- Strap It Down: Thread our straps over the canoe and through your car’s open doors (not windows) or under roof rails if you’ve got ‘em. Tighten until snug—no wiggling!
- Double-Check: Tug the straps and give the canoe a shake. Solid as a rock? You’re good to go!
Driving Tips
- Speed: Keep it under 65 mph for safety—wind’s no match for our setup.
- Distance: From our place on Farm Lake to most BWCAW entry points (5-30 miles), it’s a short haul. You’ll be paddling in no time.
